ANNOUNCEMENT ON THE JAPANESE SONG CONTEST FOR STUDENTS AND COMPETITION REGULATIONS

1. Contest introduction
The Japanese Song Contest for Students “学生向け日本語歌唱コンテスト” is co-organized by Interdisciplinary Institute for Culture, Language and Education Fostering (CLEF) and Faculty of Japanese Language and Culture, University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (ULIS-VNU).
The contest is supported by various universities, research institutes, and educational organizations in Vietnam, with partial sponsorship from The Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange (The Japan Foundation Center).
The aim of the contest is to nurture Vietnamese students’ love for Japanese language and culture, particularly music, and to promote Japanese language learning through music and the arts in general. It also serves as a platform for young people to showcase their artistic talents, foster mutual understanding between Vietnam and Japan, and contribute to strengthening the friendship between the two countries.
The contest consists of two rounds. Contestants who pass the Preliminary Round will advance to the Final Performance and Award Ceremony on December 13, 2025.
2. Contestants
The contest is open to students who are learning Japanese or have an interest in Japanese language, culture, and music.
3. Timeline
  • Submission period: September 15, 2025 – November 13, 2025
  • Final performance and award ceremony: December 13, 2025
4. Guidelines
  • Each contestant must submit a video recording of their chosen Japanese song to the Organizing Committee.
  • The submitted video must have clear sound and image quality.
  • Each contestant may only register with one performance (solo, duet, or group performance). Prizes are awarded to the singer(s).
  • Contestants are responsible for arranging their own accompaniment.
  • Contestants agree to allow the Organizing Committee to use their images, audio, and video for promotional purposes.
5. Awards
  • 1 First Prize: 5,000,000 VND (including cash and gifts)
  • 2 Second Prizes: 3,000,000 VND each (including cash and gifts)
  • 3 Third Prizes: 2,000,000 VND each (including cash and gifts)
  • 9 Fourth Prizes: 500,000 VND each (including cash and gifts)
  • 1 “Audience Choice Award” (based on online voting): 3,000,000 VND (including cash and gifts)
All winners will receive a Certificate of Achievement from the Organizing Committee and additional gifts from partner institutions.
6. Evaluation Process and Criteria
The contest includes two rounds:
  • Preliminary Round: Selects the top 15 performances for the Final Round.
  • Final Round: Live performances on stage. The Jury will score and award the best performances.
* For the “Audience Choice Award,” the Jury will count votes based on the number of likes, comments, and shares on official platforms from November 18, 2025 until 12:00 p.m, December 5, 2025, as follows:
  • 1 like = 1 point
  • 1 comment = 2 points
  • 1 share = 3 points
Voting platforms: * Entries will be evaluated objectively and fairly by experts in music, culture, and linguistics, based on the following criteria:
  1. Vocal quality and singing technique
  2. Japanese pronunciation
  3. Performance skills
  4. Creativity and originality
